Navigating the change of Season
Sep 13, 2023Hello Beautiful One,
Today as the weather outside is beginning to feel more Autumna, it feels only right that we talk about what these changes can bring.
From an Ayurvedic lense, Vata season is nearly upon us. This is the time when the elements of Air and Ether rise....and I love it!
The darker nights with a good book and a blanket, the freshness in the air, the slower cooker back on the kitchen side, glorious colours in the trees, warm spicy drinks flowing, comfy boots and soft jumpers, and Halloween fast approaching - for me Autumn has always felt like a time of pure magic.
However as with all change, if we are not conscious with our transition, we can find ourselves feeling a little bit all over the place!
Ayurveda teaches us that first we must let go of what has been and that is why at this time of year we cleanse, on all levels. I don't mean juice fasting or crash dieting but a week of supporting our digestive system with easy to digest, metabolism activating and nourishing foods that will allow our physical bodies to release the toxins accumulated over the previous season.
We also engage in practices that will nurture our soul, energy, emotions and mind, and consciously and energetically let go of any baggage picked up along the way that is weighing us down.
And then from this place of a clean slate - our vitality restored, our mind clear, our passions renewed we consider our intention for this next chapter.
As someone who had always struggled with the idea of restriction, I was initially suprised by just how much I actually enjoyed the cleanse process when I first started following Ayurveda. I think it helps that that there is no weighing of foods, counting calories, being hungry, or eating revolting things (We all know I love my food!) but actually it was more than just this. Taking time to consciously let go of the heaviness - be it toxins, emotions, foggy brain or just giving myself time to reflect on a new direction I felt pulled to take - felt liberating and emowering!
So as I schedule in my cleanse week for next week, I am excited to see what the process this time will uncover.
I would love to invite you to do the same, if not a full Ayurvedic cleanse then just taking time over the next few weeks to consciously plan your transition of the seasons and decide what are you leaving behind and what are you stepping into - I can't wait to hear what you uncover!
Much love,
